3 Ways to an Easy Transition with New Baby
How to help the stressful transition with a new baby
Having a baby can be a transition with complex emotions ranging from happy and proud to sad and frustrated. This is a challenging season for many new parents. About 15% of moms experience postpartum depression, 15% of moms experience postpartum anxiety, and many more experience baby blues. While baby blues is defined as mild depression lasting from hours to a couple of weeks after birth, I’d like to challenge this thought that the symptoms of stress that accompany these challenges may last much longer for some new moms.
Add on the regular challenges of parenting, the stresses of current events– this is definitely a unique season!
Some recommendations:
- Find social groups where your baby can play and parents can talk. Sometimes it’s nice to share relatable stories.
- Outsource something in life. Maybe its house chores, food, or mundane tasks. If it’s to find trustworthy childcare, work within your comfort limits for caretakers, location, and length of time.
- Take care of yourself. Whether it’s a massage, yoga class, or sound bowl meditation, find a healing modality that helps you relax your body and rejuvenate your mind.
This is definitely a season of life where extra support is needed. Find ways to nourish yourself and balance life as best as possible. If you’re interested in gently welcoming your new body into health, consider signing up for a private yoga session. If you’re in need of nourishment for mental and physical health, sign up for a private sound bowl session.
